GTRCC and Our Club History
The Golden triangle Radio Control Club (GTRCC) is an AMA chartered club (#610) that was founded 48 years ago. While the general location of the club has always been near Arlington, Texas, the last flying field was near Burleson, Texas. It was lost by the club in 1995 largely because of nearby residential development and an increasing tax burden on the owner. In 1995 the club had nearly 100 members, but after years without a flying field, the membership declined to the very loyal core members.
During the interim four years the club continued an effort to sublease a flying site on the shore of Lake Joe Pool from the Trinity River Authority (TRA) who leased the site from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE). In the spring of 1999 agreement on satisfactory sublease terms was reached between the GTRCC and the TRA. Based on these terms, the GTRCC successfully completed a membership drive to get the necessary minimum of 50 members to make the sublease financially possible. In September 2000 the club had a new lease.
The City of Grand Prairie has taken over control of Low Branch Park which includes our flying site. They have toured our field and appear to be very receptive to our plans for the field. In January 2005, we finally had a new lease for 5 years, with an option to renew for another 5 years in 2010. This has remained in place to today. We love our field and we think you'll love it too.
